Balticconnector was damaged at the start of October 2023 by Hong Kong registered vessel m/v NewNew Polar Bear and its anchor. Approximately six months after the accident, the repairs were completed, and the Balticconnector has been back in operation from April 2024 onwards. Our assignment included complex liability and insurance related legal questions towards multiple counterparties in different jurisdictions. We successfully helped our clients on securing their rights and on obtaining approximately EUR 30 million as insurance compensation for the repairs of the sustained damage.

Gasgrid Finland Oy and Elering AS are national gas transmission network and infrastructure operators in Finland and Estonia respectively, and joint owners of the Balticconnector gas pipeline. Balticonnector is part of Finland’s critical infrastructure as it interconnects the gas markets of Finland and the Baltic States.
